FMCSA is committed to providing the information you need to create compliant ELDs.

Make sure your device meets the technical specifications in the ELD rule. Log into your ELD Provider Account to access important information on developing and testing your device. If you have not yet registered with FMCSA, you can request an account .

Test Your Device

Providers must certify that they have tested their device and that it meets all technical specifications detailed in the ELD Rule. To assist with this, FMCSA offers optional technical resources, including a File Validator. Click below to get started using the FMCSA File Validator.

Register and Manage Your ELD

Once you have verified that your ELD is compliant, you can self-certify and register your device with FMCSA. These devices will appear on the Self-Certified ELD List that truck and bus companies will refer to when shopping for the ELD that best meets their business needs.

Telematics or Local: Select Your Data Transfer Option

ELD data must pass through FMCSA’s systems before it can be reviewed by enforcement personnel. Compliant ELDs must offer at least one complete set of the data transfer options listed below.

Option 1: Telematics

Web Services

Uses internal internet connection to upload data file to ELD Web Service.

Email

Attaches ELD file and sends email message to ELD Web Service via an FMCSA-specified email address.

Option 2: Local Transfer

USB

ELD file locally transferred to laptop using USB keypad to encrypt and decrypt data.

Bluetooth ®

Upload ELD file to ELD Web Service via Bluetooth-enabled internet connection.

Log in to the ELD Provider Portal to:

  • Obtain the FMCSA email address needed for email data transfer and end points needed for web services transfer
  • See the enforcement view of your test ELD files
  • Access a summary report of each of your device’s data transfer activity
  • Register your device or update your device’s information to keep your listing on the ELD list up-to-date
