New FMCSA ELD Public Certificate to Be Available in June

On August 6 of this year, FMCSA’s ELD public certificate, used for email transfer, will expire. ELD providers using this certificate will need to take steps to update their software to keep their devices working properly. Read below for more details.

This message applies only to providers whose devices support telematics transfer; it does not impact ELDs that support only the local transfer option (Bluetooth and USB).

On April 27, FMCSA informed ELD providers that the Agency was in the process of procuring a new FMCSA ELD public certificate to replace the current certificate, which expires on August 6, 2020. This certificate was scheduled to be available in May 2020. Due to pending system updates, the new FMCSA public certificate will not be available until early June.

The system updates will ensure that both the new certificate and the previous certificate continue to work until August 6. FMCSA will announce via this email list when the new public certificate is ready for download.

Access real-time information summarizing the validation status of files that have been transferred by your customers from your devices to the FMCSA eRODS Web Service, as well as detailed tracking of any errors in file structure to be remedied. To access the report for your device(s), log into the ELD Provider Portal, go to “Manage Your Devices,” select a device and click on “Data Transfer Summary” at the top of your device detail page.

Read and understand the technical specifications in the ELD rule.
Run your ELD output files through FMCSA’s File Validator.
If your device supports telematics, use the Web Services and email test procedures provided by FMCSA to ensure your device is able to successfully transfer files to the Web Service. Full details are in the ICD/Web Development Handbook in the ELD Provider Portal.
Check the safety official view of test files you have successfully submitted via the test procedures, or successfully run through the FMCSA File Validator, and compare them to your ELD display. Log into the ELD Provider Portal for more details.
